About Me

Welcome To SunRise Shelties

I live in Missouri with my husband on our 60 acre farm. I love to go fishing in our little lake that we have on our place. I have lived in Missouri for almost 20 years now.

I grew up in Texas, was raised in a veterinary family and therefore I have extensive experience in veterinary medicine and I enjoy it too. I moved to Arizona when I was 17. I moved back to Texas and then here to Missouri. I have two grown children. My daughter, who also lives here in Missouri is 26 years old, married and has a 6 year old daughter. (My grand-daughter)
My son is 24 y ears old, married and lives in Arizona where his father lives.
My hobbies are my family, my horses and my dogs. I have my shelties but I also have a couple of big farm dogs as well. My grand-daughters miniature pinscher also lives here. (Update: Alley the min pin has gone to live with my grand-daughter now)
I have started raising shelties because I just love the breed. They are very smart and very easily trained. They are fabulous family dogs and love kids and other animals. They are loyal and protective dogs and what an alarm system they make. Try having six of them all go off at the same time. Ear splitting to say the least. My dogs stay with me throughout their life until they get to a ripe old age and pass on to greener yards in the sky. I had two Shih-tzus and had them their whole life. One of them had a stroke and passed on at the age of about 12 and the other one passed on just this year (2008) at the age of 15, which for a shih-tzu is very very old. She had gone blind, deaf and was very senile. She didn't even know who I was anymore and I had her since she was weaned at 6 weeks old. I have others that are getting up there in age as well.

Doing some Training on my 2 year old

What a job!

I only wish I had the rest of the facility to do this full time. I do enjoy working with the dogs and the horses. It is my favorite thing to do around the farm. I am working on having an indoor arena to be able to work year around.

How I started in Shelties

I got my first sheltie many many years ago when I went to visit a dog pound one day. In one of the kennels sat a beatuiful dark shaded sable female. She was small and she had something wrong with her leg. She couldn't walk on one of her hind legs and it was crooked. Turns out she had been shot. I don't know why someone would do that to this dog or any other dog for that matter. I took her immediately to the vet where she had to have surgery. The vet did a very good job. Sadie was a wonderful and loving family dog. She lived for many many years, went with me everywhere and if I moved she moved with me. Sadie has sadly passed on but she lived to be a very old dog and had a wonderful life. She was pampered throughout the rest of her life.
I decided after having had Sadie that Shelties were my favorite. They are very smart, not to big, not to small, hardy dogs and easily trained and very entertaining. I now have more shelties and I love them all. I hope you enjoy seeing my shelties as they grow.
