This is Emmy and Bear. The are brother and sister. They could have been registered but I chose not to register them. They will be spayed and neutered soon. They are both deaf as a result of two Merles being bred. This doesn't always happen. No one wanted them so I agreed to take them as pets only and keep them together. They are inseperable. They don't act any different than my hearing dogs. We do hand signals and they respond very well. It was actually very easy to train them to hand signals. Emmy and Bear were born March 23, 2008 and I got them in June 2008.

This is little Emmy. And when I say little that is exactly what I mean. She is very tiny. She is a double dilute blue merle with two blue eyes. Her sight is fine but she is deaf. She can hear high pitches but to just call her or talk to her in a normal voice, she is unable to hear that. She has picked up on hand signals and is very smart and very fast. There have been cases where deaf shelties were successful agility dogs.

This is Bear (the bigger one and Emmy). They are brother and sister. Bear is also a double dilute blue merle with two blue eyes and he is also deaf with about the same degree of hearing as Emmy. I got them in June 2008 from a breeder friend of mine. She was unable to place them and I told her I would take them both. I would never consider giving up either of these little dolls. They are so smart. Bear also responds to hand signals. Both bark like normal dogs, however, their bark is a little different sounding.

Bear and Emmy are inseperable. They are together all the time. They eat together, play together and often times sleep together or at least close by each other. Emmy will get up on our bed and look down at everyone else and bark as if to say, "hah hah I am up on the bed and they let me stay". Emmy, I will admit, had gotten a little preferential treatment as she is so much smaller and I worry about her more. I don't know why really, because she is a little stick of dynamite and about the biggest tomboy I have ever seen. She has no idea she is so little.

Although Bear is showing his teeth in play to Emmy rest assured that Emmy can hold her own with her brother and will frequently put in down on the ground and stand over him. She is a tough little girl and she and Bear love each other like you wouldn't believe. Emmy will be spayed and Bear neutered very soon. I will not be breeding them at all.

This is Bear. (the white dog). He is Shelby's brother and he is also deaf. Doesn't stop either of them, trust me. They bark like everyone else, and the only difference is that I do hand signals with them. They also do not have a lot of color and are mostly white. Bear is also a double dilute blue merle sheltie. He will be neutered soon. I took them as pets only. I will also keep them together.

This is Emmy. She is deaf but otherwise no different other than lack of a lot of color. She is a double dilute blue merle. She was born deaf due to being the product of two merles being bred. This does not alway happen. Emmy is aweful small as well. She will be spayed very soon. It will just be the best thing for her. She and Bear were in the same litter and a friend of mine had them. No one wanted them because they were deaf so I told her I would take them. I am very glad I did and have kept them together. They wouldn't know what to do without each other.
